Lakewood, was originally built in 1961 as an exclusive private club in town where the PGA played the New Orleans Open. It's just south of downtown by 10 minutes, take Crescent City Connection (US-90S) to General De Gaulle Drive. The original architect was Robert Bruce, but the course went through bankruptcy, and a major overhaul by Ron Garl, and re-opened to the public. From the tips the course plays to just over 7,000 yards, 132 slope, and has been updated to modern course standards, and is in good shape. They added moundings to the fairways and around the greens, and some very funky contoured, fingered bunkers, which take some getting used to visually. Good alternative for play in the New Orleans area, interesting course, not overly difficult.

Very scenic course. Lots of memorable holes. The course was also empty, we felt like we were the only ones on the course. Staff was extreme. Great day of golf.
