Lake Toxaway is about 30 minutes west of Brevard in southwestern North Carolina. The golf course is a private course, but open if you stay at Greystone Inn as we did. The golf course is a hilly traditional style of layout routed through the residential community development here in the Nantahala National Forest It was a par 71 course of 6,900 yards from the black tees, 69.2 course rating and a 131 slope. The first nine holes here were designed by Reg Heinitsh, and opened in 1962, the back nine by Kris Spence, in 2007. It was a very challenging golf course layout, through the trees with water, streams, lakes, and waterfalls in play throughout. There were a number of narrow corridors, flat lies were difficult to find, and the greens very fast and undulating. Course conditions were excellent, the clubhouse and dining superb, the greens fees a little expensive, but that would be my only complaint.
