La Torretta is an hour north of Houston on Lake Conroe, off I-45 at Hwy 106, then west to Lake Conroe. Full blown resort and spa, but you don't have to be a guest of the resort to play the golf course. Upscale resort with accommodations, the course is routed through a residential community over flat land with trees and water lining the fairways. It was designed by Jeffrey Blume, and from the tips can play to 6921 yards, used to be known as Del Lag until it was taken over by the resort and upgraded by Blume. We really enjoyed playing The Club at La Torretta and found it in good condition, somewhat challenging, and fun to play. Relatively flat terrain with fairways lined by tall hardwoods, some of the golf villas, and a few homes, and is more of a placement drill off the tee to keep the ball in play with houses and trees inn close proximity. The fairways are tight with several dog legs, water, swales, some good sized bunkers, and well guarded greens to help keep you on your game. We played from the Blue tees at 6,500 yards, 71.2/129 and found it to be challenging, yet fun. We thought the front nine a little tougher than the back thanks to some huge bunkers, dog legs, water, well guarded greens, fairway mounds, and grass hollows. The back nine is more scenic, not quite as tight, and has three great par 3's and a fantastic signature hole with a waterfall, but has its share of forced carries, dog legs, and elevated greens and tees.
