Kokopellis is located on the northwest side of Marion on the east side of I-57. Just a great golf course for this part of the state, if it was in Chicago, it'd be over $100 to play. Nice collection of interesting holes with elevation change, doglegs, tree lined fairways, tough par threes, overall very fun course to play. From the back tees, it's 7150 yards, 139 slope, and 74.7 course rating, and was designed by Steve Smyers in 1997.

This news can't be good for the golf course: Time is running out for Kokopelli Golf Club in Marion. Local investors agreed to buy the golf course from a Florida company--Kokopelli Master Partners L.L.C. The only problem is that the United States Treasury holds the deed to the property and without its release, the sale can't go through. The government froze the assets of one of Kokopelli's original investors, John BredenKamp. The government alleges Bredenkamp has been involved in arms dealing or money laundering in connection with Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe. The possible new owners of Kokopelli Golf Course say Bredenkamp won't see a penny from the sale, but the deed is still tied up in red tape. The sale can't go through without it, so Kokopelli will likely close.

We made a return trip to Kokopelli golf course last week with friends. It was a beautiful day for golf, slightly overcast (meaning not as hot as it has been) but no wind or bugs!! The course is lush with rolling fairways, lots of water and sand (my favorite things ....just not on a golf course) and no obstacles like houses on the course to worry about. What a great way to spend the day!!!
