Knollwood is off the 118 Freeway at Balboa, then north about a mile. The course has been around since the 1950's, originally designed by Billy Bell, with further design work by William Johnson and David Kent. It's a true parkland style of layout, routed through a fancy neighborhood of homes, but mostly trees blocking out the homes from the golf course. It has three sets of tees from 5,700 yards to 6,373 yards, with a 124 slope from the tips. Ever hole is tight and pines and eucalyptus trees lined with little room for error off the tee, or on approach to the small, well guarded greens. It's a tough test, hilly, full of doglegs and odd lies, but well conditioned, occasionally slow on the weekends, and a bit on the expensive side.
