The course is operated by the city of Lexington, but is not your typical muni. It was designed by Pete and P B Dye in 1989 as a links style course, except for the water and rolling terrain nature of the land it does feel linksy. The greens are very large, and typical of the Dyes, have severe undulations. There's a good amount of bunkers, pot and otherwise, and it plays tough for its 128 slope rating from the back tees. The course routing is open rolling fairways with very few trees. The wind is a big factor in playing the course. It has hosted a number of major PGA tour and USGA events, and is a very well regarded course nationally. The course has 70+ sand bunkers, and a number of the greens are set in natural amphitheater type settings. It's bentgrass tee to green, and kept in very good condition, and fun to play.

Top 3 favorite courses I've ever played on! Every hole is challenging and beautiful, the food is amazing, and the conditions were almost perfect. The fringe was recently aerated, which sometimes affected some putts. But no other complaints. Played in under 4.5 hours, cart girl was an 8, and I must have found 40 balls OB trying to find my ball...MUST play course if you are within a couple hours!
