The course was designed by John Harbottle, and plays to 7186 from the back tees, handicap rating of 74, and a slope of 130. The course is known for its terrific greens and very good fairways with quality bunker sand. I think it's tougher than it's slope rating and usually play it from the whites. The layout is defined by lava rock, sagebrush and sand off the fairways and feels open and linksy. Scenery is okay but not spectacular, desert type course foliage with hydro lines across a section of the course. The bentgrass greens are hard and fast, and the entire course is just plain a blast to play. It can get busy here, especially on the weekends when the pace of play slows a bit, play early, or late in the day for the better rates. The fairways are generally wide enough for an errant tee shot to still be in grass, but ball placement off the tee is critical for the approach shot.

Add my vote as the best value in Central Oregon. Even if you are staying at Sunriver, it is worth the drive up there to play.
