The Jubilee is a fine original links course routed over a narrow strip of linksland between the New Course and the sea, and was originally designed as a 12 hole course for the Queen's Jubilee in 1897 by John Angus. It has the same land essentially as the New and the Old, but is about 1/2 the cost of the Old, and is a very good test. It's has the same deep bunkers and undulating fairways and fast greens as the other two, and is pretty much an out and back layout except for holes 8 through 13. The fairways are tight and the bunkers, rough, and gorse punishing. The course was extended in 1902 to 18 holes by David Honeyman, Tom Morris' assistant, with further improvements by Willie Auchterlonie, and Donald Steel, and now plays to 6,742. While here to play the Old, I always enjoy a round on the Jubilee, it seems more challenging than the New, with more character, and you can't beat the price for quality links golf in Scotland.

The Jubilee is a magnificent course, the best and most striking I have ever played, including Pebble Beach. Every hole is a challenge, but fair; and the vistas are breathtaking. I report, at the risk of boasting, I had a 79; but I would hate to try that course without a caddie or in the wind (including a double on one hole with a diabolical bunker). I played it alone, with the caddie; hardly anybody else was on the course. So THIS was one of the best golfing experience I ever had.

From a value standpoint, the Jubilee is perhaps the best golf for your money at St. Andrews. The Old Course is spectacular in its history but the Jubilee is a fun, challenging course that really tests your skill. And all of that at a much more reasonable price. I've been lucky enough to have traveled to St. Andrews numerous times and Jubilee is consistently on my list of 'must play' courses. You will not be disappointed by this course.
