Jasper Park was designed by Stanley Thompson, and plays to 6663 yards par 71. It's located at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in Alberta on Lac Beauvert in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. It's one fantastic and stunning setting for a golf course, and what's more, a great and classic course by one of the great architects of Canada. Three holes are routed along the greenish and clear waters of Lac Beauvert, a beautiful finish to the round. There's an abundance of wildlife, seen especially in the late afternoon when the rates are down, and the shadows long, including elk, moose, deer, coyote and bear. The course is routed through a valley with the snow capped mountains as the background. It's really not all that long of a course when you consider the elevation here, and all of the three shotters are less than 500 yards each, making for some interesting strategy and course management. All of the greens are open in the front to encourage the run up shot, but some are a bit elevated. A good number of the bunkers are situated short of greens proving a bit of deception on your first go round. The greens are medium sized, small undulations, going with the flow and slope of the land and water influences and are moderately fast. It's a true parkland style of course with elevated tees, major bunkering, and holes framed with the mountains. The fairways are wide and tree lined, and water in play on a few scenic holes. A must play on your itinerary into Alberta.

Just played last week and to say the least was underwhelmed by the course as a whole, and shocked at how overpriced it was. Sure, there's some nice views, and an overall beautiful setting, and a great drive to get here, but for $150 we were expecting so much more, especially after being so awestruck by the beauty of the other courses that we had played in the same price range (Silvertip and Stewart Creek as well). The course was surprisingly flat, and its age was showing a bit. The course had an older feel, and didn't feel relevant. We hit a number of irons off the tees on par 4s and the par 5s were reachable . Also, the fairways were really wide open and there wasn't a noticeable difference between the fairway cut and the rough. Will skip the next time I'm in the area.

Ah Jasper! You will never forget the tee shot on No. 14, across Lac Beauvert, through a sliver in the trees and then a gentle, uphill dogleg left. Nor can you forget the dramatic, straight downhill par-3 ninth, the one Thompson called Cleopatra--a hole no course architect would ever be bold enough to try today. Ending on a green that sits on a plateau and is surrounded by bunkers, all framed by Mount Pyramid Peak--an interesting story
