Island West is on the mainland, about 15 minutes from Hilton Head, in fact there's so many good quality courses on the mainland, playing on the Island is a bit overrated and expensive. The course was designed by Fuzzy Zoeller and Clyde Johnson, and opened in 1992. From the back tees it plays to 6803 yards, 129/ 72.1 ratings with three shorter sets of tees. It's routed through a residential development, not fully developed as of yet, so the homes don't interfere with the layout. Very fair and playable layout through the wetlands with rolling fairways, elevated tees, with tree lined fairways, playing the good sized and well guarded greens. Well maintained, good pace of play, and rates were about $50 less than we were paying on HHI.
