Island View Golf Club is west of Minneapolis by 30 minutes in Waconia, near Lake Waconia, off Rt 5 to Island View Road. Beautiful, secluded golf course with no housing lining the holes, just trees, water, and sand, excellent layout, semi-private, and open to public play. It can play from 5,300 from the red tees, to 6,500 from the blue tees, where the course rating is 71.4 with a 133 slope, not a pushover by any stretch. Shotmakers love the course, the big hitters can't stand it, cause there's not a lot of room for wild errant drives. Greens fees are reasonable, course conditions are usually good, and they always seem to manage the pace of play well here. The course's only issue to me is that it doesn't seem to have been updated since it was built in the 1960's. It was designed by Bill Kidd Sr. and George Oftelie, as a classic parkland style of layout. Not on the level as Chaska Town or Rush Creek, but a decent layout.

What I saw today was a fairly well conditioned and mostly unimaginative track with little in the way of trouble for a decent golfer. The holes themselves were nice enough, but something just felt like it was missing as you looked at them from the tee box. Nice enough picture, you could say, but a terrible frame holding it. I wasn't upset with the round, played at a low twilight rate, and the pace of play was great.
