The course is part of the Inn of the Mountain Gods resort and casino of the Mescalero Apache Tribe, and is just outside Ruidoso in the mountains of Mescalero. The golf course was designed by Ted Robinson in 1976 and plays to 6819 yards with a slope of 132, and is at an elevation of 7200 feet above sea level. The golf course has great elevation changes throughout the course, major tree lined fairways and medium to large greens with moderate elevations. The par threes are the stars in my opinion. The 8th plays from an elevated tee box at 227 yards down to a well bunkered green, and the 12th is 212 yards with a full carry across Lake Mescalero. I just recently played this course and it's challenging at best and the scenery is spectacular.

The fairways were in good shape and the greens pure. There were areas of construction, but not too distracting. The replay was slow and not quite sure why--no marshalling to keep things going (at least in the afternoon). However, overall a great bargain with good conditions, a great clubhouse (with exceptional food for a golf course), helpful staff, and reasonably priced.

the course is in great shape, however, the pin placements were crazy hard. Especially the par 3's. 3 of our foursome 4 putted both of them and we all shot mid 80's. With the rolling fairways and many uneven lies, Mountain Gods is a real challenge.
