The Indian Wells Golf Resort has two 18 hole course, the Celebrity course, designed by Clive Clark at 7000 yards and 138 slope from the back tees. The course is extremely well landscaped, maybe over the top, rolling and mounded fairways, tree lined by huge palms, eucalyptus & pine trees, along with natural desert areas with views to Mt. Eisenhower & the Santa Rosa Mountains. Very well designed and challenging course, usually in excellent condition and available for public play. The Player's course was designed by John Fought in 2007 and has a more classic and traditional feel to it, more forgiving off the tee, with tree lined fairways, and is a redesign of the former East course here, and plays to almost 7400 yards from the back tees. If you're staying at the Resort, the Indian Wells Country Club is open to guests, and is neat to play where the Bob Hope Invitational originated and was played for years. The Classic Course is the original course that was designed by Eddie Susalla and plays to 6478 yards with a 127 slope. The Cove course was designed by Sussalla and Ted Robinson and is 6,558 yards with a slope of 121. Both courses and the clubhouse are your classic Palm Springs resort desert standards and take you back 40 years. If you're a purist or historian, you'd enjoying playing either of the private courses, extremely well conditioned.

My first time at this course which is fairly new opened in 2008. The only other course I played in the area was Tahquitz creek. $70 with a cart/range balls(summer rate) I was glad to paired with guy who played the course about 50 times , because course experience is a must on this one! This course playing from the blue tips is around 7000 yds. The fairways were well kept, narrow rolling type with uneven lies and undultations. Lots of waste areas and shots over these waste areas with palm trees scattered on in half of the fairways. Sand traps galore! Water is in play for at least half the holes with nice views of the mountains throughout. The greens were in remarkable condition maybe an 8-8.5 on the stimp. There are multiple tiers on just about all the greens.I notice I didnt get much spin on my chips. With a slope of 134 I believe from the Blue. Par 5s are over 530 yards to 595 yards. some of the par 4's that play 400 yards are longer due to uphill fairways, so tough and long it was, but well worth the greens fees at the summer rates.

Two fantastic golf courses that are completely different from each other. You have quite a good variety of public golf here. Desert Willow gives you the Arizona feel, Indian Wells Golf Resort has the flower, waterfall, Augusta white bunkers on the Celebrity, and then the long, tough, raised greens, big bold bunkers on the Players course

These courses are simply not to be believed. $120 per round for a tourist, $35 (you read that right) for an IW property owner. The fairways are manicured to perfection. Not a home in sight anywhere. The greens are fast and tricky. Sand traps are everywhere and are groomed to the perfection you watch the pros play in. The layout is such that each hole is kept hidden or separate from adjacent holes. The scenery is spectacular. The Celebrity course would do credit to a professional garden club. Rounds are started and run with the precision of a Swiss watch. I have played many of the other highly touted Palms Springs courses, like the La Quinta Mountain or PGA West courses, and they are not up to these standards. Too many of the holes are just flat "straighties" through housing developments. If you're in the area, you should try them. The only downside is that even condo or house renters can't get the $35 rate. As the guy at the pro shop desk told me, you have to prove your name is on the property deed!

Both the Playes and Celebrity are must play courses for any visit to Palm Springs. Always in great shape, the Celebrity is where they're played the Skins game.
