This Jerry Mathews design opened in 1995 and is tucked away in northern Livingston County. This is very much a family owned and operated layout. At 6,522 yards (72.2/131 rating) the course won't be confused with Bethpage Black but it can provide a stern test unless one hits a straight tee ball. Three alternate tees allow one to lower the challenge. Although dotted with wetlands and ponds, the course is most like a links-style course in that the primary hazard is long native grasses lining the fairways. The problem is that unlike in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, there is pretty much no escape from this heather. Lush and dense are the best description of the natural grassland. If you hit into the heather, a provisional is the best recourse. Nonetheless, this is a fun course and worth the trip into Livingston County's hinter lands. From I-96 take the Pinkney Road exit north to Michigan Avenue and then west on Grand River Avenue. This will lead one to Byron Road (N). Alternately take M-59 west through Howell until the intersection with Byron Road.
