The course is located just east of downtown Birmingham off University and Highland. The course originally opened in 1903 as the Birmingham Country Club, and was the site of one of Bobby Jones early golf tournament wins. It's a rather short course at 5801 yards, 128 slope from the back tees, and is a parkland style layout. In 1998, Bob Cupp restored the course and updated some of the design features and somewhat modernized it. It's truly a shotmaker's course with accuracy required, both off the tee and on approach to the greens. The greens are small, fast, a bit elevated, and slightly undulating, guarded by a minimal amount of bunkers. It's a good course for walking - carts are required to stay on the paths so walking isn't a bad option - and a fun track. Every hole features elevation changes and a hazard or two, and water comes into play on half the holes. The course is very well conditioned and manicured, some of the best greens in Birmingham.
