High Hamptons has a classic mountain style golf course designed by George Cobb. The Inn is a classic Western North Carolina old style, rustic with a lodge and cabins, but in a spectacular setting, and the golf course couldn't be much more fun to play. The course is short, a little over 6,000 yards, is forgiving off the tee, but narrows up around the small greens. I don't remember there being any bunkers on the course, but there's a little water on a couple of holes, and the fairways are tree lined and very hilly. It's located about 1 1/2 hours southwest of Asheville, and 1 1/2 hours northwest of Greenville high up in the mountains. Not a championship style or quality of conditions, but a fun course nonetheless, and stunning scenery.

It's been about two years since I played this course and the conditions have improved significantly. Greens and traps are in great shape even though there are quite a few ball marks on some greens. Tees, fairways, and rough are the best I've seen in several weeks. Course still gets heavy play and may be slow during peak hours.
