Hesketh Golf Club is another fine golf club along England's northwest coast around Southport. It's a stretch which has some dozen fantastic links courses, a couple of which are on the rota for the Open. We were able to play Royal Lytham, Birkdale, and Hoylake, and Hesketh was recommended for an open day on our schedule. Hesketh is part links and parkland layout, and is 1.5 miles north of Southport Town centre on the A556 to Preston. It's one of the oldest of the courses in Southport, opening in 1885. It's routed through a stretch of linksland dunes, the Ribble estuary, and a community of Victorian homes. It's been an Open qualifier for the British Senior Amateur, and the Open when it's held at Birkdale. From the medal tees it's 6691 yards, S.S.S. 73. and was designed by JF Morris and with additional work by Martin Hawtree. Fun golf course to play, lots of variety, with excellent conditions, and a warm welcome in the clubhouse.
