Hernando is located just south of Brooksville, if you're up playing World Woods, you need to include Hernando Oaks on your rota. From the back tees it's 6900 yards and a 132 slope, and was designed by Scott Pate as part of an upscale housing development. The course is challenging and full of character, and parkland in nature with tree lined fairways, with the front nine routed through the new housing and the back routed through the natural setting. The greens are mostly elevated, with mounding and collection areas, and 60+ bunkers mostly surrounding them. Water or wetlands are in play on 10 holes, but the fairways are somewhat forgiving off the tee. It's overall an interesting design, with each hole unique and seperated.

I like the course at Hernando Oaks Golf & Country Club, but have not played there since last May. When I had a chance to go this weekend with a few friends, I went expecting a good round. The last time I played there the course was in good shape. The only down-side was the wet sand traps holding water from heavy rains. Unfortunately, this time I was disappointed. Teeing it up on Sunday, I saw different conditions than before. Some tees were not in good shape at all, and on several holes you had trouble finding where the fairway stopped and the rough started. Some fairways looked dug up, scattered with holes from hogs or other varmits. The greens also were not in the good condition they had been before. The sand traps were wet and hard but no standing water. Some of the condition problems may be attributed to the rain the day before, but that was the first rain in over a week so it didn’t account for all the problems. The staff was still friendly and they have a driving range with a putting green (which was a little ragged in spots) next to the first hole. The starter was informative giving us the pin positions and rules for the day. There is water and ice available before your round. The price was $38 dollars for a Sunday morning 8:10 tee time and we got through the course in just under 4 hours. Overall I was disappointed with the conditions because I really like the course and it’s layout. On my previous visits it has always been in good shape. I know I’ll go back, I just hope next time it’s in a little better condition. If you’re making a tee time, check to see if the course is wet and the condition of the greens. From Bunker Talke

Hernando Oaks Golf Club is a refreshing change from the crowded, house-lined fairways of most courses in the area. Here there are few houses, especially on the back 9 which is rare and the seclusion makes you feel like you’ve got the course to yourself. The landscape is one of rolling fairways and towering oak trees with water coming into play on several holes. The course supports 5 sets of tees ranging from 6900 yards to 5100 yards so golfers of all abilities can find tees to suit their game. I found the challenge of this course was in the oversized greens and difficult hole placements. This makes it fairly easy to hit the green, but many times you’ll be left with a very long putt. The course conditions overall were good considering the amount of rain we had Saturday and early Sunday morning. Tee boxes were in good shape, the fairways, although wet, were mown and the greens in spite of the rain were running a little fast. Due to the heavy rain though, most of the traps were washed out with standing water but if dry would probably be in good shape. The $35 plus tax price tag is a good value for weekend morning play and a good price for the course. We played the course in 4 hours which is a good round of golf for a Sunday morning considering that due to the wet conditions it was cart paths only. The course has a driving range, chipping area and a large putting green by the 1st and 10th tee. Staff were friendly. I was met at by a staff member who loaded my bag for me which doesn’t happen very often. At check-in I was updated as to current pin placements and the cart paths only rule. Visit BunkerTalk!

Course was in great shape, front nine was so so, but back nine was special, isolated, unique holes. A nice alternative to World Woods, and less expensive, I would play here again. Nice folks in the golf shop.
