Gull Lake is a full line golf resort and conference center in Southwest Michigan, between Battle Creek and Kalamazoo. Five golf courses here, been around for years, develop, and mostly designed by the Scott Family. Good old traditional Michigan golf, not high end upscale like some of the courses in the North, just good solid golf at reasonable prices, with a break for seniors and juniors. The Gull Lake View East Course was designed by Darl, Charles and Jim Scott. Hilly layout with a good amount of water in play, traditional style of layout, short though at 6,050 yards, with a 68.8 course rating and a 124 slope from the tips. More of a target style of layout IMHO with some tight landing areas, and approaches to the greens. The West is the original course at Gull Lake, designed by the Scott Family in the 1960's. It's a tad longer at 6,303 yards with a course rating of 69.8, and a slope of 126. Same type of layout essentially with hilly, tree lined fairways with some water in play, a little more forgiving off the tee than the East. The Stonehedge North is the newest of the five Gull Lake View golf courses, designed in 1995 by Charles and Jon Scott, and is located a couple of miles down the road with Stonehedge South. It's more of an updated design, parkland style with some nice elevation change, playing to 6,673 yards, 71.8 course ratings, and a 127 slope from the tips. The greens are good sized, slightly undulating, more sloping on the backside. The back definitely has more character with the elevation change, and is much more interesting and challenging than the front side. Stonehedge South is always our favorite layout at Gull Lake. It opened in 1988, and was designed by Charles Scott. From the back tees it plays to 6,656 yards, with a 72.4 course rating and a slope of 133. Parkland style of layout with tree lined fairways, some tight, doglegs, rolling topography, and an overall challenging test. Bedford Valley was designed in 1965 by William Mitchell, and is known as "The Big Course," with huge greens, large bunkers, and tree lined fairways, excellent layout, the 2nd best course at Gull Lake with plenty of challenge, rolling and sloping fairways, well bunkered with a little water in play. From the back tees the course is the longest at 6,980 yards, and a course rating of 73.5 and a 131 slope, and is a few miles from the resort, not part of the original resort development. Always well conditioned, good value for the money, if you only have time for one or two courses, I prefer the Stonehedge and Bedford courses personally.

Course is hurting for funds and they have dramatically reduced rates to entice players on this course. The problem is they have failed to increase the maintenance required when you get more pay. The course has so many outings it gets torn up.
