The Golf Course at The Grove Park Inn Resort and Spa first opened for play in 1899, and was redesigned in 1924 by Donald Ross. It's a classic southern golf resort that every major PGA Tour player from Harry Vardon, to Bobby Jones, to Nicklaus and Palmer have played. The course is a classic Ross parkland style course of 6,720-yards, par 70 layout, and is a study on course management. Teeing off at the base of Sunset Mountain, the front nine is mostly flat, but the back gets up into the hills with good elevation change and great views throughout the valley. It's easily the best course in this part of the state, and top 10 in the entire state. The course is very well maintained throughout. The original small "Ross" greens have been enlarged, and are a bit raised or crowned, and contoured with heavy undulation, and quick. Lightly bunkered, mostly around the greens, and then deep faced, tree lined, sometimes narrow fairways. Just a pleasure to play this course. Enjoy!

It was a tough but fair; the picturesque views of Asheville's skyline, the shadows of Sunset Mountain and the unique architecture of the Inn made it worth the trouble to travel here. It plays very short from the forward tees, which was helpful, but the greens were the fastest we've played on for some time.

A treat to play, excellent conditions and service, beautiful layout, one of the better in the Southeast, just expensive.
