Golf de Catalunya is a golf resort and development about 45 minutes drive north of Barcelona, on the way to the Costa Brava and Girona, off the A-7. It's about 20 minutes from the beach, and if we had it to do over, we'd have stayed at the beach and played these two courses here. Although the resort and development are very nice, upscale, and relatively new, and a good place to base, it was a little expensive and far from the beach areas. Two great golf courses, the Stadium and the Tour, both venues for the European PGA Tour and other major professional and amateur tournaments. Both courses are parkland style with thick tree lined fairways, with the Stadium being the toughest of the two layouts, a lot of water, sand, and narrow fairways. The Stadium had a number of holes with good elevation change, doglegs, not entirely a straightforward style of layout, but in excellent conditions, just be sure to pick the right tees for your game. The Tour course is shorter and a little less difficult to play than the Stadium Course, with wide fairways, well bunkered but mostly open off the tee, a little more "resort" friendly. The courses were designed by Angel Gallardo and Neil Coles, with the Stadium playing to 7,200 yards from the tips, the Tour at 6,400 yards. One of the top golf resorts in Europe, and a must play if you're traveling to the Costa Brava.

Played the Stadium, and it was one of the most extraordinary and exciting courses we played in Spain. There are no less than 11 elevated tee shots with great views and shot values, wide open and sweeping fairways, mature forest, strategic water hazards and fast, true-rolling greens, it was a great experience.
