The Golf House Club is maybe 30 minutes from St Andrews and is a worthwhile addition to your golf if basing in St Andrews. It's much less expensive than the Links Trust courses, and is similar to Crail in that it's an old club designed by Tom Morris from the late 1800's. It's a short course at 6,273 yards with 16 par fours, and two par threes. The wind off the Firth of Forth is always in play here. The interesting thing is unlike most links courses, most of the holes here run cross-ways with the prevalent direction of the wind. More mind boggling on how to play the hole than a simple downwind or into the wind hole. The course had some later revisions from James Braid, and runs the gamut from flat linksland type of holes to some elevation change, couple with plenty of quirky hole designs. You immediate get the idea of that when you reach the #1 hole and the starter's hut where a periscope is used to see if the fairway's open to the next group! Great fun to play, pleasant setting, and reasonably priced.

Golf House Club or Elie as it is otherwise known, is a fun track to play. In addition to having interesting holes, I always feel like it plays like a march to the sea. There are but 2 Par 3s and the rest par 4's but don't let the quirky configuration keep you from playing a very fine links course in the Kingdom of Fife.
