The Golf Club of Kansas might be the best public access golf course in the Kansas City area. It's still open to the public during the down economy, but is expensive to play. It's on the southwest side of KC just off I-435 at 87th St Parkway to the west, out on its own routed through a former rock quarry next to the Kansas Sports Center. It's a Tom Jackson design routed through a forested are with 150+ feet change in elevation, with some holes cut through sheer rock walls. It can play to 7,000+ yards from the tips, we play from the White tees at 6,264 yards, 70.7/129 and it's a stout test. Lots of fun, tremendous risk/reward type holes, well conditioned, hard and fast greens which hold the high shots.
