Glenwoodie is a fine parkland style of layout on the south side of Chicago. It's south of the Tri-State, exit either Halsted or Rt 394, then south. The course was designed by Joe Lee, and has tight tree lined, fairly level fairways, playing to 6,715 yards, 71.4 course rating and a 120 slope. There's water in play on a few holes, mostly a straightforward layout, a few doglegs, and moderately well bunkered. One of the better, low profile courses on the south side, and a break from the high greens fees. Some of the better putting surfaces in town, and the back nine is a real challenge with some neat holes.

Played here this weekend, mostly because they have some solid deals and it isn't too far from the city. The course was in much better condition then when I played there a few weeks ago, but in general for $29 on a weekend at 11am you really can't complain. The front nine is pretty easy, but the back 9 has a few really tough holes including one of the more ridiculous par 4s I've played around here. (450+ yards from the tips, narrow fairway, second shot over a ravine into an elevated green that's small and has zero room to bailout). The pace of play has been decent when I've played there. I actually played on mothers day by myself and played 36 holes in less than 5 hours, it was amazing. It touch to argue with some of the deals they have online, especially if the course is in solid condition.

Good conditions. Very challenging course. Some holes required irons or three wood off the tee on par 4s. kind of target golf on a few holes. Rough is thick and challenging. Greens are sloped.
