The General Burnside Island State Park golf course is located west of London and Corbin within the park. The course had been closed for renovations for more than 18 months, but reopened in 2008 with great results. You just can't beat playing a course of this caliber for $25!! It's located on an island that is surrounded by Lake Cumberland, but water only comes into play on the 18th hole. The routing is over hilly terrain with a lot of blinds shots, but minimal use of bunkering. The course's main defense is the sloping and hilly fairways and undulating greens. The course has well conditioned bentgrass tees and greens and zoysia fairways and four sets of tees ranging from 5,036 to 6,394 yards, with 126 slope from the championship tees. The Park was named for the Civil War general Ambrose Burnside. who apparently led patrols along the Cumberland River and the area. The redesign was completed by Brian Ault.
