Tucked away in the rolling land east of Jackson is a little course called Gauss' Green Valley. Designed and built by Lloyd Gauss in 1960, the layout is a step back into time when golf was not about 460 cc club heads and 7,500 yard courses.
Tipping out at 6,035 yards (67.4/119 rating) this par 70 is neither punishingly long nor strewn with hazards. The front is decidedly shorter than the back nine so don't expect to always have a wedge to the green. Water comes into play on three holes (one hole features a peninsular green) and the fairways are framed by lighted wooded rough. The small greens are reasonably well bunkered and roll true. Sharp iron play will net you a good score.
Access is from I-94. Take 127 south to E. South Street and proceed south easterly. The road becomes Brooklyn and will lead you to the course.
