Frye Lake National is a new Jack Nicklaus design, 15 minutes south of the Quad Cities off I-74 at the Rt 81 exit, west to the small town of Sherrard. It's located on the south side of town, the west side of Frye Lake as part of a new residential community that has yet to take off. Eventually, it will be a private golf course, but until they fill the membership, it's open for public play. It's a parkland style of layout with rolling, tree lined fairways, playing around lakes with tall prairie grasses lining the fairways. Typical for Nicklaus it's a challenging layout with plenty of sand usually where you hit your drive or an errant approach shot. There's four sets of tees from 4,400 yards to 6,400 yards, the Blue tees are at 5,831 yards, par 70 with some drivable par 4's, there's only one par 5 on the course and it's easy to get home in two. Well conditioned for such a new course, having opened in 2011, but still a bit rough around the edges. Beautiful, natural setting with no homes to speak of lining the holes, but there will be.
