Forty Niner is a classic, old parkland style course, a refreshing break from the high priced desert resort courses in town. It's located in a quiet neighborhood, about 20 minutes from the airport and opened in 1961,designed by William F Bell. The course plays to a total yardage of 6641 with a 126 slope, and has played host to PGA and LPGA tour events in its early days. It's set between the Catalina and Rincon Mountains, and is routed through a wooded riverbed with fairways lined by mature trees and native desert shrubbery. The greens are small, fast and slightly undulating, slightly elevated, and you'll need good course management to score consistently. The course's fairways are bordered by mature mesquite, cottonwood, eucalyptus and weeping willow trees and come into play throughout. All in all, a very nice experience and departure from the normal Tucson golf experience, at half the price!

Played Forty Niner today. Fairways were terrible greens were very good. Tons of dead spots in the fairway and not the good kind that are hard pan and roll for ever these were pretty soft and most had aeration marks. Still a fun course to play just wish the fairways were alot nicer,
