This course is a favorite of mine in the Augusta area. It's not only a nice challenging course to play but has a lot of history. The course was originally the location of Camp Hancock in WWI, but after the war was developed into a resort Forest Hills with the Ricker Hotel, and Donald Ross designed the original course here in 1926. In WWII, the government took over the property and converted the hotel to a hospital, and the course was renamed the the Armed Forces Golf Course. In 1977 Augusta State University acquired the property and the course was renamed back to Forest Hills and preserved. Arnold Palmer redesigned a couple of holes in 1984, and the whole course was again renovated in 2003 to its former layout. From the back tees, it's long at 7,231 yards, 72 course rating and 126 slope. The course is known for its fast greens, there's only a couple of holes with water, the rest, kind of a parkland style of course. Well worth the money, save Master's week.

Always enjoy playing Forest Hills, and this weekend was no exception. The course has recovered well from the rough winter, and was in good shape. Pace of play was a little long for my liking, but still under 4 1/2 hours. Very challenging layout on a few holes, but fair off the tee, the real game is on approach to the greens.
