Falconhead is in Bee Cave, a west Austin suburb off Rt 71. Nice course, relatively new to the area, built through a housing development, and designed by PGA Tour Design Center. One of the better courses in Austin, the course has great views, nice elevation change, and is well taken care of. Rates can be steep, but check mid-week, later in the day, etc. Nice design, open off the tee, lightly bunkered, and water's in play on only a few holes. Somewhat forgiving overall, but not from the tips at 7300 yards, 129 slope, but with 3 other tee boxes. It's generally been well conditioned, and really a fun course to play. You have to play the course just to see 17, a par three where the green is built on a limestone ledge of sorts, and hangs over a creek.

Overall, Falconhead is an enjoyable, interesting course that uses the terrain well. It is a challenging course for any level of golfer. The opening few holes provide a good, gentle start to get a feel for the layout and then it gets progressively more challenging. The front nine heats up with the difficult two shot 6th and the long par 3 7th before finishing up with the long par 4 9th. On the back nine, holes 11 and 12 really use the terrain well with elevated tees and greens. Hole 16 is a great risk/reward par 4 that is driveable but guarded in front by a sea of bunkers which means any shot off-target is in trouble. The Falconhead staff and the practice facilities were excellent
