Elk Ridge Golf Club, opened May 1991, and is in Northern Michigan, near Gaylord. It was designed by Jerry Matthews and plays to 7072 yards, 143 slope from the back tees, and continues to be one of the better golf courses in Northern Michigan. It's routed over land with good elevation changes throughout the course providing great views of the entire area, and some cool elevated tees for the big drives. The holes are mostly tree lined, with good strategic bunkering, a number of doglegs, and strategic play is required to score well. The greens are large, with a good amount of undulations, and fast. Water in the form of lakes, ponds, wetland, and streams come into play and add to the risk/reward character of a lot of the holes here. There's a lot of room for the course, it was built on 400+ acres, and very well done, even after 17 years, it's one of my favorites up north.
