Dromoland is located 10 minutes from Shannon Airport in Newmarket-on-Fergus, and is a 40 year old course, but was recently redesigned by Joe Carr and Ron Kirby in 2000. They utilized the original routing plan, some holes lengthened, some shortened, the green complexes were completely reconfigured and contoured, bunkers and water are used sparingly, but effectively. The course is set on rolling parkland land on Dromoland Castle estate, which was simply an idyllic setting on the grand day we visited. We played whilst on tour to also play Ballybunion, and found the course very interesting, with a number of challenging holes, most notably the 7th, and the 11th, and experienced quick, but true greens. I would definitely play again when in the area.
