Dove Valley Ranch is in far north Phoenix, in Cave Creek, off Carefree Highway. The course, like most in the area, is routed through a residential community, the front nine is forgiving, the back nine is where you’ll loose strokes to par. It was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr, and is over 7,000 yards from the tips, 128 slope. Tough and challenging layout, desert style, but seemed to be more forgiving off the tee than some of the other target style courses, with the back side a little tougher through the Willow Wash. You get some of the better views of the valley from the Cave Creek/Carefree area, despite of the housing surrounding the course.

Community golf course, not a high end layout or experience. There were enough desert off each fairway to loose some balls, but it was mostly open and fair. Not one of the most scenic or challenging layouts, but it was easy on the wallet, a little ego builder, and in nice shape. The front side starts out a little slope, but toughens up on the back, which is the way a course should be set up. There's some forced carries and risk/reward opportunities, and it ended up being a fun course to play.

Course was in great condition today, the fairways were flawless and the rough was thick. The greens were aerated about a week ago so they were a little tough to putt on, but they are only a couple of days away from being great. I loved the layout of the course, with wide open fairways and monster bunkers. The hotdog at the turn was great, can't wait to go back!
