Fairway Pines is in the Divide Ranch & Club midway between Ouray and Montrose in western Colorado. It's part of a real estate development that was just beginning to take off, so am not sure how long it will last, but the course was really spectacular and fun to play. It was designed by Brian Coker and from the tips is 7,039 yards, 128 slope with stunning views out over the San Juans with Mount Sneffels to the south. The course is routed over a mesa with juniper, pinon and ponderosa pine lining the holes. Fantastic experience, just hope they last, and that it wasn't so far from Grand Junction.

Beautiful course and setting, in great shape, but the rates were a little steep. If you play in the late afternoon, you're guaranteed to see a lot of wildlife, some claim bear roam the course, but we didn't see any. There's a few homes on the course, but set back and blocked by trees. Smallish greens, a good amount of doglegs, some 90 degrees, fantastic elevation change,

Great golf course and setting, just out in the middle of nowhere, and tough to get to. They've had their share of financial problems here with the overall development, but the golf course is still in decent shape, and worth a play if you're anywhere near. Very interesting and challenging layout, be prepared to loose a few balls, but the scenery makes it all woorthwhile. Noticed the dying Lodgepole pines, and asked the guy I was playing with about them. Apparently, due to the ten year drought here, the Lodgepoles lost their ability to fight beetles, and are dying all over the state. Not only does it make everything look brown, it's an incredible fire hazard just waiting to happen.
