Devils Head is about an hour north of Madison, 15 minutes southwest of Portage, on the north side of Lake Wisconsin, not far from the Dells. It's a four season resort with lodging and a ski resort in the winter, you can stay in a condo, or hotel type lodging, but you don't have to stay there to play the golf courses. We've stayed in the lodge, which was old and dated, and some of the condos, which were newer and much nicer. There's two 18 hole courses, The Glacier and The Prairie Glen which are really pure mountain golf with some drastic elevation changes and plenty of sand traps, tree-lined fairways, water hazards and natural wildlife. Both courses were built in the 1970's by Arthur Johnson, The Prairie Glen is routed over the Baraboo Bluff with a variety of elevation changes, narrow fairways, rock out-croppings, amazing views, and water hazards on seven holes. The Glacier Golf Course is the shorter of the two golf courses, and definitely more of a strategic layout where accuracy is more rewarded. Both are good tracks, a little slow to get in good condition, but by mid-summer are excellent.
