Deerfield is north of Newark off Paper Mill Road, out on its own, routed through a natural setting over rolling hills with tree lined fairways, and is one of the better public courses in our area. The course was originally a private club, the Louviers Country Club, built for the Dupont employees, but is now owned by Division of Parks and Recreation, who have spent a considerable amount of money bringing it up to today's standards, and opened it to the public. It's expensive to play on weekends, but lower rates during the week and late in the day. The course is always in great shape, it's challenging with a variety of holes, rolling hills and uneven lies with the occassional blind shots. It was resdeigned by Bill Gordon, we play from the whites at 6005 yards – 70.1/133 ratings, and it really plays more as a shot makers course where placement off the tee, and on approach to the greens is more important than length.
