Deer Brook is on the north side of Shelby, about 45 minutes west of Charlotte, 45 minutes north of Spartanburg. The course is part of a residential real estate development with a few homes scattered along the course, but mostly natural borders. It was designed by Rick Robbins and Brian Lussier in the late 1990's, and from tips is 6,900 yards, we played from the White tees at 6,200+ yards and found it to be a good test, but fair. It was in decent condition, especially the greens, rolled true and were quick. The layout was a parkland style with trees lining the fairways, and a good amount of water and sand in play. Very playable course from any set of tees. First class all the way, with a reasonable greens fee as compared to the courses around Asheville.
