Cuscowilla Golf Club

The golf course is located east of Atlanta, off I20 on Lake Oconee, just south of Reynolds Plantation. It's part of a residential real estate development, but can be played as an unaccompanied guest, or at lodging affiliated with the club, with differing rates. The course plays to an overall yardage of 6,847, 130 slope, but has two shorter sets of tees. It's a Coore/Crenshaw design along the lake, pine tree forests, and marshland, and opened in 1997. Coore & Crenshaw are known for their minimalist design, somehow using the existing terrain and land features and laying a golf course in there. This has been heralded as another great course for them, not on the scale as Sand Hills, but a well done effort. There's not only a great diversity in holes here and strategies, but also the terrain. Going from lakefront, to marshland, to pine forests and back again, gives a good bit of variety to the round. Each hole pretty much has a course management decision, rip it, or play safe...a thinking man's course. Holes 1 through 5 offer the best opportunity to score while warming up for what's to come.
There are some open, links type holes along with the more parkland style with some elevation change. The bunkers here are deep and ragged, collared by tall grasses, with more reddish Georgia soil than your usual white sand. The greens are different shapes and sizes, and have a few false fronts, generally are fast and with good undulations. A very well kept golf course, great guest service, and a pleasure to play. I would recommend to all.
