Crystal Falls is northwest of Austin in Leander, off 183 near Cedar Park. A great course - one where you need to play it a couple of times to get the hang of the layout. The course is routed up and down the hills and has a lot of elevation changes, rolling terrain, and sloping fairways. Greens were extremely fast and difficult - a lot of slope and undulation, well manicured and slightly fast. The layout is unique and very challenging, incorporating enormous amounts of elevation change, the scenery is fantastic here in the hill country with wildlife galore, especially in the late afternoon. There's plenty of challenge with the course, and is definitely on the quirky side with a couple of blind par 3's that drop off 100 foot or more to the canyon below. It's like playing the Fazio Canyons at Barton Creek, but for 1/3 the price. Fairways were in good condition, narrow, and most had a lot of slope. Each hole is different with doglegs, trees, and blind shots. It's 6,654 yards from the blue tees, 72.3 course rating, and 126 slope, and 5,194 from the red, designed by Jack Miller in the 1990's. A true hidden gem in the middle of Austin's expensive high end golf courses.

I love this golf course for the challenge of it, can't ever seem to master it, always fail at a few of the holes, just can't keep the bailing wire around me to finish a round. Always fun to play here, plenty of hills, not a good walking course, but hey with the low rates, why not ride, and enjoy a few beers and the scenery! Flag Content
