The course is located in Trinidad, in southern Colorado off I-25, and is a true gem of a course in a real estate development. It plays to a long 7,669 yards from the championship tees, and is routed through valleys, mesas and arroyos of Cougar Canyon, with the great scenery of the Sangre de Cristos, the Spanish Peaks and Fisher's Peak. The course has mostly open fairways at the landing areas and a few forced carries. .Atypical of a Nicklaus course is that it's only got 40 or so bunkers of black volcanic sand. The front nine is more open and forgiving
the back nine winds through a deep arroyo and is a bit more target golf. Great conditioning, rates are a little expensive, overall a great find virtually out in the middle of nowhere.

Heard it announced this week the course was closing, some foreclosure mess with the lender, but would try to re-open in the spring. Hope we don't loose this one.

Long golf course, but being at 6,000-foot elevation helps, lots of trouble with the deep black sand bunkers, the front side gets you ready for a much tougher bck side which has one of the more spectacular par 3's you'll ever see, a 165 yarder over a huge gully to a mini-mesa island green. Stunning!
