The Contraband Bayou Golf Club is a Tom Fazio layout on the west side of Lake Charles, and part of the L'auberge Casino and open for public play. The layout feels wide open, but there's a lot of water, marsh and wetlands in play, both near the landing zones and on approach to the greens. It's an OK layout, a little mundane, not the best Fazio course you've ever played, conditions were average at best. Straightforward and playable, yet challenging, you'll loose a few balls. It's as long as 7,000+ yards from the tips, 5,000+ yards from the front tees. Rates are pricey, but they do have off-peak rates, and I suggest waiting for the lower rates, or you'll be disappointed. The course has had its issues since opening with Katrina and Rita tearing it up, but is coming back, and worth checking out if you're passing through town, but Gray Plantation is a better layout.
