The course is a muni owned and operated by the City of Cortez and is fairly close to the Mesa Verde National Park near the Four Corners region. From the back tees the course is 6,800 yards, par 72 and a 113 slope and was designed by J. Press Maxwell, Perry Maxwell's son. Great views are to be had throughout the golf course, while it's mostly a flat layout, parkland style lined by Ponderosa Pine and pinon trees, the views of the surrounding La Plata Peak, Mesa Verde, and Sleeping Ute Mountain range are fabulous. There's water in the form of lakes and creeks in play on eight holes, and the layout is more traditional with small greens a bit raised and with good undulations. Well conditioned, best course in the entire southwest Colorado area.

Fairways and rough is in good winter shape. Several traps and greens are having patchy maintenance being performed. Still offering winter rates. Staff was cordial and accommodating.
