Connemara Golf Links

Ballyconneely as Connemara is referred to by the locals, opened in 1973, and the A and B nines were laid out by Eddie Hackett. It's a links course, sitting due west of Dublin, on the Atlantic in a remote area of County Galway. It's a long with wide with open fairways, and while the rough here is heavy, only the truly errant ball will find it. The course can play to 7,055 yards from the back tees or 6,235 from the daily markers. A third nine, C of course, opened in 1999, and is full of elevation changes, shot value, and variety. The A nine is really quite boring, being routed over flat and characterless land, while the B nine gets more rugged and dramatic, with hilly terrain, elevated tees and greens. The land here is somewhat uncharacteristic of the Irish courses I've play in that there's no sand dunes to speak of. Consequently, the course is open to the elements...wind, but has uninterrupted, and expansive views.
