Chennault Park is a good option for golf in the Monroe area, it's midway between Black Bear in Delhi, 45 miles east, and Trail's End in Acadia. For a muni, it's an interesting layout of 7,042 yards, 115 slope from the back tees, and kept in reasonably good shape. It was designed by Jim Wall and Kevin Tucker in the mid-1970's, and is parkland style with fairways lined with trees, some rather tight, and a mostly straightforward layout. It's located on the east side of Monroe, on the airport's east boundary.

Played it today and am happy to report good conditions all the way around. Fairways are some of the best you can. Greens are shaping up and rolling good. Rough is cut down, but very healthy. Traps were all good and they were raking them as we played. Only complaint would be that they charge weekend rates on Fridays. Thirty to walk is still well worth it. It drains well and is a good one after all the rain yesterday. Good challenge from the back tees. Has a good mixture of holes.

Chennault is a muni that's been closed for a couple of years while the city upgraded it. It's always been a great track, but conditions suffered, hope that the changes and money the city spent will do some good, because the golf course has potential. It's between exit 120 and 124 off I-20 on Millhaven Road on the east side of Monroe, right east of the airport. Traditional layout, built in the 1960's with tree lined fairways, mostly level, water and sand in play. Fair, but challenging golf course, really looking forward to the re-opening.
