Chehalem is 30 minutes southwest of Portland in Newberg. The course can be very difficult depending on the tees you select. It's 7054 yards, 154 slope, 74.8 course rating from the black tees, and was designed by Bill Robinson. Not a very friendly course to walk, the back nine cuts through a big ravine making it hilly, the front nine starts off with a forgiving open layout with some nice holes. The layout is a little tricky, and not real straightforward, it takes playing it a few times. The roll and slope of the fairways, some blind shots and forced carries add to the difficulty. Its usually in good condition, rates are good, takes a little getting used to. .

Chehalem Glenn also happens to be the first place I ever picked up a golf club and gave the game a go, and I always have a soft spot in my heart for it. Was there yesterday, the staff was very helpful, the clubhouse is accommodating, and the deli food is adequate. My friend and I enjoyed a warm spring day out on the course, and I realized I was enjoying myself. The backside is more challenging than the first nine, the back will frustrate you, challenge you, and may ultimately charm you. Some players complain about the holes with an uphill approach, like #11 which requires a tee shot across a ravine before getting to the uphill approach. Sure, it's not a downhill straight, but it will challenge you as you try to outwit it's design. Chehalem Glenn has a very nice rain policy. If rain is experienced at any time during your round you will get a rain check for another round, not bad considering how much rain we get around here.
