Charlotte Golf Links is south of I-485 on Providence Road southeast of Charlotte. It was designed by Tom Doak, who designed Pacific Dunes, and is 6700 yards, 120 slope from the championship tees. The course is somewhat forgiving off the tee, unless you catch one of the many pot bunkers or the high heather rough. It's a links style course opened in 1993 before Doak gained his notoriety for some great courses. It's not pure links with the ponds and streams, and the hilly terrain, but it's fun to play with some interesting holes, and some great par three's, in fact five of them. Well conditioned, a little expensive, but there's lower rates for off peak periods.

We found CGL to be a gem of a course both very playable (69.5/116 from the whites) and quite fun, with wide open fairways, a lot of bunkers, variety of shapes and sizes, interesting and different green complexes, elevated, but with possible up and downs. The are half a dozen excellent holes at CGL with the par threes leading the charge, and the course is usually in good shape with the bent greens running fast and the dormant Bermuda quite tolerable. The four of us played on a Saturday, carrying our bags, in under 4 hours.
