Charlie Vettiner Golf Course is a muni on the southeast side of Louisville, east of Chenoweth Park, off Billtown Road at Mary Dell Lane. It's owned and operated by Louisville MetroParks, and is the best course of the nine they operate in my opinion. The downside is that there's no range so you have to warm up somewhere else before your round, and they haven't had a practice green for a while. They are supposed to replace it, as well as build a new clubhouse in the near future. The layout is parkland style playing from 5,100 yards from the red tees to 6,900 yards from the tips with a course rating of 73.6 and a 136 slope. Tough golf course no matter which tees you play from, tree lined fairways over rolling hills provides you with a lot of odd lies, and tight approaches to the greens. The course is well maintained with Zoyzia tees and fairways and bentgrass greens, and is reasonably priced to play. This golf course is absolutely beautiful, especially in the Fall, and the people that work there are top notch. It's not an upscale, high end experience, but a very strong layout at a fair rate. It was one of Dr. Michael Hurdzan's early designs, and best suited for the lower handicapper, more accomplished players.
