Champion Lakes is east of Pittsburgh, north of Ligonier. It was designed and owned by Dick Groat and Jerry Lynch, two ball players from the Pirates' 1960 Championship team. From the back tees, it's 6608 yards, 131 slope and is a tight driving, parkland style course, with some of the better greens in the area. The routing is mostly tree lined, with heavy rough bordering, but few fairway bunkers, but plenty of water. Doglegs, uphill/downhill/sidehill lies, some beautiful scenery, and great elevation change in a private club atmosphere, one of the old classics in the area.
