Carter Plantation is located near Hammond, about 45 minutes from New Orleans, and is part of an upscale residential real estate development with cottages for overnight accommodations available. It's part of the Louisiana Audubon Golf Trail as well as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. The course is well maintained, was designed by David Toms, and plays to 7,049 yards from the back tees and a slope rating of 140. The course is an interesting and challenging design with 86 bunkers, water on 8 holes, and tree lined fairways, a quiet environment seemingly out in the country. Immaculate condition, fairways well groomed, greens a little slower than you would expect on a course of this caliber. The course winds through pine wooded areas and there are only two holes on the back nine which run parallel to each other. Very challenging from the tips which add a few difficult forced carries off the tee, but very playable from the other sets of tees.
