Carter Plantation is located near Hammond, about 45 minutes from New Orleans, and is part of an upscale residential real estate development with cottages for overnight accommodations available. It's part of the Louisiana Audubon Golf Trail as well as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. The course is well maintained, was designed by David Toms, the course plays to 7,049 yards from the back tees and a slope rating of 140. The course is an interesting and challenging design with 86 bunkers, water on 8 holes, and tree lined fairways. It's a nice, quiet environment seemingly out in the country. Immaculate condition, fairways well groomed, greens were a little slower than you would expect on a course of this caliber. The course winds through pine wooded areas and there are only two holes on the back nine run parallel to each other. Very challenging from the tips which add a few difficult forced carries off the tee but very playable from the other sets of tees.

This course is very challenging. It is another great David Toms design. It's in great shape and I enjoyed being out there. It's a little expensive, but you get what you pay for - this is a top notch golf course.
