Cardrona Golf Club is part of the McDonald Hotel chain, and is a Dave Thomas design, about an hour south of Edinburgh. It's mostly an open course, a few tree lined fairways, but mostly treeless in the Borders hills and routed along the River Tweed. The course plays to 6,800 yards from the medal tees, was built in 2001 as part of a new community development, Thought the course was fair off the tee, but the greens are well guarded, a bit raised, and contoured, and getting up and down after a miss, is not guaranteed. Course was in great shape, rough was a little penal, otherwise a challenging layout, with a combination of heathland, parkland style holes. Water and bunkers challenged us throughout the day, the holes were mostly straightforward with a couple of real crackers.
